Your opportunity

Tax Consulting is all about solving complex intellectual challenges. We help our clients make the right business decisions, on a worldwide scale, by working collaboratively and creatively. Which means you get to see the bigger picture and become an expert in your specialist field.

Business Tax: It’s our job to make complex tax issues understandable for senior stakeholders and decision makers. From day one, you’ll work closely with clients – big and small - across all industries, on every aspect of their corporate tax. You’ll help companies deal with an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving tax landscape. We also deliver large-scale, international projects, as the tax experts in a multidisciplinary team. In contrast, our Private Client Services sector provides tax advisory and compliance services to high net worth individuals, which includes domestic business owners and a high number of non-UK nationals, whose tax affairs can be complex. Finally, we offer the opportunity for you to join our US corporate tax team, based in London you will deliver on large corporate and partnership transactions, restructurings and sizeable US tax compliance engagements for multinational clients.

Global Employer Services (GES): Two words sum up what we do in Global Employer Services Mobility and Reward. The first is about helping employers of all shapes and sizes to move their people around the globe, providing expert legal and business advice on everything from immigration to tax. The second is about planning the right pay, pensions and benefits for their staff. You’ll get to use innovation and technology, such as business analytics, to deliver true insights and value to clients. We have offerings within specialist departments such as Payroll, Executive Compensation and Immigration. Join us and you’ll not only be among the experts in this field, but the market leaders.

Indirect Tax: As an Indirect Tax professional, you’ll get to know all aspects of your client’s business and advise them on business-critical events. Much of this is rooted in law. This means that a big part of your job will be researching legislation and case law and relating it to clients, so you can find effective solutions for them. You could help clients navigate everything from Brexit to ’Trade Wars’ working in our Global Trade Advisory area, and all the uncertainties in-between including their tax systems and technology working within our Compliance & Technology area. Wherever you specialise, you’ll become an expert in customs, global trade, VAT, landfill tax and other indirect taxes that affect businesses, minimising the costs for clients, whenever, wherever and however they do business.

Tax Management Consulting (‘TMC’): Our TMC team has a market-leading reputation in the UK and beyond, and we are the largest integrated tax process and technology team of the Big 4. Joining the TMC team will give you access to senior leadership across the myriad of industries and markets within the UK, and internationally. In our team you will gain consulting, technology and outsourcing experience, to help businesses meet the challenges of multi-jurisdictional tax operations, including compliance, reporting and risk management for direct and indirect taxes. Your advice will help clients enhance their tax and finance operations through the transformation of their processes, technology and resourcing models and where appropriate offer global outsourcing capabilities. This helps tax departments to meet key objectives for quality and control in a way that also creates value for their organisation. You will develop strong relationships with clients, becoming a trusted advisor and will build an understanding of how different types of businesses and structures operate.

Transactions: Our services have never been more in demand! You will have the opportunity to advise on a variety of transactions; ranging from multinational world-renowned businesses, real estate, including offices and hotels around us, to significant local infrastructure such as the wifi we use, or even investing into private investment funds and other investment vehicles themselves, alongside other investors. As part of your role you will get to work with teams around the world on a variety of projects. We work with our clients, the legal advisers, the investment bankers and other stakeholders through all aspects of the transaction to help our clients successfully buy or sell a business, allowing you to see the whole transaction timeline and build a strong knowledge of a wide variety of taxes and apply them in a commercial way. You can work on a variety of different aspects of a transaction within a single project: this could be the tax due diligence process which is the review of the tax history of a business to identify any potential risks, or it could be the structuring process to help design and implement a corporate structure that allows our clients to buy a business. We also provide advice in relation to the private investment funds which bring investors’ capital together to make these Transactions possible, including the design and operation of the fund structure, and tax advice and tax reporting in relation to the returns to investors.

Ventures: Are you naturally curious about the future and staying ahead of the curve? At Deloitte, exploring the future of business with our clients, taking their most complex challenges and creating solutions is at the heart of what we do. We don’t have all the answers but what we know for sure is that there is more than one possible future out there. Our world, and our clients’ world is changing at an extraordinary pace and is increasingly more complex and challenging. We want to be disruptively leading this ever-changing landscape and we want to be the service provider that co-creates the answer to the inevitable question of “What happens next?”. Today, really for the first time ever, through the access, speed and ingenuity of technology it’s possible to really explore these options. No more risk of inaction, no more missed opportunities, no more lost futures. We believe there are many possible futures for our business and our clients, and we’re here to explore them all.

Your opportunity

Japanese companies are facing a unique series of challenges in the global marketplace, such as a volatile regulatory landscape, a shrinking domestic workforce and increasing focus on overseas markets and a disruptive and exponential change in digital technologies.

Deloitte’s Japanese Mobility team in London partners with Japanese clients to overcome these challenges and steer them towards truly global success, helping them to plan, build and develop globally mobile talent and meet all personal tax compliance and withholding obligations regionally and globally. Some of the services are provided in the Japanese language so the business level Japanese language skill will be one of the essential requirements.

We work with more than 200 Japanese organisations in the UK and Europe. Our clients are spread across all industry sectors: from manufacturing, to technology, to financial services, to sport, and everything in between. We partner with organisations of all shapes and sizes, from private individuals through to large multinational corporations. Whilst we are based in the UK, our client work takes us to whichever geography our Japanese clients need us – most commonly European countries, but also to Japan and other Asian countries when it comes to complex global projects. One thing our clients share is the need for a partner to guide them on their transformational global talent journeys.

Your professional experience

In addition to taking part in the Tax Analyst Development Programme, we will support you in obtaining professional qualifications that will be beneficial to your everyday work and long-term career. As part of the Global Employer Services (GES) department, Japanese Mobility offers the opportunity to study for the Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) qualification followed by the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA) qualification, if appropriate.

You would start out in Deloitte’s Tax & Legal Analyst Academy in your first two weeks. Within Deloitte there is a big range of developmental training that you can make use of throughout your career, and in the past we have also supported our team members with language training.
