Risk Advisory - Public Sector, Graduate Programme

Programme Overview

Our BrightStart Higher Apprenticeship is an opportunity for curious, smart people like you to leap into the world of professional services. Earn-while-you-learn, gain a professional qualification and get stuck in, helping to solve some of our clients’ most complex problems right from the start.

Your opportunity

Public Sector Audit is one of the areas that sits in the Audit & Assurance business offering fascinating engagements, inspirational colleagues, and every opportunity to explore, develop and grow. The difference is in the type of clients you’ll work with.

  • Public Sector Audit: Want to make meaningful, long-term impacts on public services? We’re the market leader in NHS Foundation Trusts, and work with some of the UK’s biggest universities and local governments too. You’ll build advisory expertise working closely with senior client staff, focused on solving their business-critical issues.
  • Introducing new techniques and automated technologies has freed our people to focus more on business-critical issues, and less on more basic tasks. Which means ‘doing an annual audit’ here is as much about providing the client with valuable insights as it is, highlighting weaknesses in their financial systems, and recommending solutions. You’ll get to work on both audit and non-audit projects, such as organisational development reviews, financial due diligence and board development work
  • There’s no doubt the learning curve is steep. But you’ll soon develop into an accomplished professional, with a wide network. You’ll be able to drive change for organisations and add real value for your clients, as well as progressing fast within our firm

Your professional experience

  • You’ll get to work with and learn from some of the most talented and experienced professionals in our public sector team, and benefit from a unique training programme for new joiners, one that balances core skills along with the specific requirements of each of our Audit & Assurance businesses and gives you the flexibility to work, learn and develop in a way that suits you and fits with the business’ requirements.
  • You’ll get the opportunity to work with some of the largest and most important public sector entities in the UK and, through your work, make a positive contribution to the continued delivery of essential public services.
  • As well as your professional qualification, you’ll receive sector specific training to support you in developing the expertise that working in this sector demands.
  • You’ll gain experience in a number of different areas of our business, and over time will build advisory expertise and go on to work closely with senior client staff focused on solving their business critical issues.
